Navajo people celebrate the month of October as their new year and acknowledge the separation of the seasons. They would gather as a family and prepare their harvest goods for the long winter months ahead of them. They would also prepare the cornfields for the winter, as well. It’s a time of family unity and expressing themselves with humility. To celebrate this new year, the Residential and 21st Century Program will be hosting a cultural event on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 5pm to 9pm at the community hogan.
We are extending this invitation to everyone to join us. We will have cultural presentations on these teachings of the Navajo New Year, traditional food demos and cooking to feed all that want to celebrate with us. We hope you can join us and will be eating sometime after 6pm. If you are able to, share this with one another and encourage kinship.
